Our History and a chance to write your experience at the Punkin Ranch on Facebook.
Tommy & Joy Assiter have raised Pumpkins for over 50 years. Joy retired around 1992 as Bank Branch manager and decorated around the farm house with Pumpkins and “cull” Big Maxx. Customers began to stop and ask if they were for sale and a new market was found. In 1993 Tim Assiter came back to the farm and began developing the marketing with old west style deco. The idea for the Punkin Ranch was born.
A few years later, on Joy’s whim, the big red barn was built. Now many families have a tradition to visit the ranch. Each year we hear many stories of how many seasons a family has visited. Recently a family that came every year for Austin revisited and the kids were grown with kids of their own. There are so many stories to tell, but I think we will let each tell their own story in a forum to be built here. So write your story and watch for the opportunity to post it here or post it on our Facebook page.
Painted Pumpkins & Gourds
Our art & crafts are mainly done by Darla Carthel, owner of Changing of the Gourds. Darla is the daughter of Tommy & Joy Assiter and has been the official artist of Assiter Punkin Ranch since she was a child. Here are a few of her pieces we enjoy showing off. She accepts special orders. Visit her website by clicking the button below.
